I held up production of this project for a few weeks looking for and then working
with an Ojibwa flute player. I found Bill in Chicago and everything we did was
with 1000 miles between us, but like all the musicians I asked help from Bill
knew just what I was asking for. The haunting melody he added to O Kun de Kun
is just the voicing I wanted. When I hear Bill's flute it's easy to imagine O Kun de
Kun and his people living at the mouth of the Ontonagon river with a clear view of
the Porcupine Mountains in the Western sky while pulling giant sturgeon from the
water. It was also a bonus for me to work with a person who is keen to share the
ways of his people.
